Dear Peel Region vendor, 

Update on the Province’s Efficiencies Review 

We’re writing to update you on the introduction of the Peel Transition Implementation Act, 2024, announced by the Ontario Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing on December 12, 2024, which, if passed, would transfer the delivery of some public works services from Peel Region to Brampton, Caledon, and Mississauga.

The proposed legislation includes transferring jurisdiction and responsibility for the following services, effective July 1, 2026, or as determined by the Minister:

• Regional roads and associated stormwater infrastructure, including ownership and maintenance responsibilities, from Peel Region to Brampton, Caledon, and Mississauga.
• Waste collection services and two community recycling centres located in Mississauga from Peel Region to the City of Mississauga.

The Ontario government is continuing to explore potential options for the transfer of water and wastewater services from Peel Region noting that any future outcome would maintain public ownership.

To support Peel Region and the municipalities through this transition, Ontario’s Provincial Land and Development Facilitator advisory agency will work with the municipalities to facilitate the process for service transfers.

The Environmental Registry of Ontario is now open for a 45-day public comment period.
