The East to West Trunk Sewer Diversion, Contract 1, Project 16-2291 (the “Project”), includes the installation of 6.3 km of 2400 mm sewer along Derry Road, starting east of Mavis Road (Site 5) and terminating 200 m east of Dixie Road (Site 2).

The 2400 mm sewer is to be constructed using fully shielded tunnel-boring machines (TBMs) to accommodate sewer depth, expected ground conditions and the need to minimize construction impact. The sewer will be constructed between 13 to 42 metres below grade, which will be entirely within rock consisting of shale
bedrock with minor interbeds of siltstone and limestone.

This portion of the Project includes four tunnelling shafts to facilitate access to the sewer during construction and for future operations and maintenance. There is also a diversion chamber close to one of the intermediate tunnelling shafts.

Additional minor amounts of open cut construction and hand mining beyond the summary works noted before will be confirmed in the final Contract Documents.

Shaft compounds, traffic management, erosion and sediment controls, and restoration of all construction areas will be outlined in the Contract Documents.
