Description:

The Region of Peel (herein referred to as the “Agency”) is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the sanitary sewer network, pumping stations, and wastewater treatment plants within the Regional Municipality of Peel boundaries.Wastewater is generally conveyed by gravity from north to south through the collection system to the wastewater treatment facilities at Lake Ontario. The lake-based wastewater system services Mississauga, Brampton and parts of Caledon.

The Peel wastewater system comprises of two principal trunk systems: the West trunk system that conveys flows along and near the Credit Valley to the Clarkson Wastewater Treatment Plant; and the East trunk system that conveys flows along and near the Etobicoke Creek Valley to the G. E. Booth Wastewater Treatment Plant. In
order to optimize the infrastructure upgrades and timing of upgrades for the West trunk system and the East trunk system, including the wastewater treatment facilities, an East to West diversion is required. This diversion will be
attained through the construction of the East to West Diversion Sanitary Trunk Sewer (EWD STS). The EWD STS is intended to provide optimal utilization of the Clarkson and G.E. Booth Wastewater Treatment Plants, improve the system flexibility for maintenance opportunities, and further support the growing population, forecasted employment growth, greenfield development, and growth beyond the 2031 planning horizon. The project scope includes the following:

Construction of a new 2,400 mm diameter Sanitary Trunk Sewer, approximately 11 km in length, that will connect the existing East Trunk Sewer near the intersection of Derry Road and Bramalea Road, to the West Trunk Sewer near the intersection of Argentia Road and Creditview Road.

The second project consists of 11 trenchless crossings of Highway 401 between Winston Churchill Boulevard and Creditview Road for the relocation of the Agency’s infrastructure. The project is initiated due to the road widening
of Highway 401 by the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) between Creditview Road and the Town of Milton. Modification of these infrastructure crossings owned by the Agency is required to remove the existing watermain valves and chambers, as well as sanitary maintenance holes, from within the new widened Highway 401
Right-Of-Way (ROW).
