The Region of Peel maintains a Wastewater Bylaw to ensure the protection of the environment including Wastewater infrastructure and the Wastewater Treatment plants.  This protection is ensured through an active monitoring and inspection program to ensure risks are managed through the administration and enforcement of the bylaw. 

Risks within the system can contribute to infrastructure failure, premature degradation and lead to higher operational and maintenance costs.

Through sampling and inspections, industrial and commercial sources of non-compliant discharges are
found and monitored for compliance. With the enforcement of the bylaw, these sources of discharge are
brought into compliance with the bylaw, reducing discharges with non-compliant
pH levels,  high levels of fats, oils and greases are reduced, leading to less operating and maintenance costs and ameliorating infrastructure failure and degradation.

The current Wastewater Bylaw was completed in 2010 and enacted by Council in 2010. The current bylaw has not been assessed/reviews since enactment.
